Delivering zero carbon homes in Cornwall

Plymouth University

Cornwall Council and Cornwall Sustainable Building Trust are investigating whether self-build housing is suitable for the delivery of zero carbon homes and sustainable communities by working with Plymouth University PhD researcher Emma Heffernan.

It is hoped that the research will support the delivery of zero carbon homes and sustainable communities in Cornwall to contribute to achieving Cornwall Council’s Core Strategy for 2030.

Paul Bright, Chief Executive, Cornwall Sustainable Building Trust, said: “We value our involvement in the research and appreciate the way it is free to adapt to circumstances on the ground. It will be useful to understand what the drivers are for low carbon homebuilding and how we can respond to them in the county.”

Emma studied 34 semi-structured interviews with professionals from the sector to identify a series of drivers for and barriers to the delivery of zero carbon homes.
